Margot Metcalfe“I love the moment of making a photograph. For me it is a moment of quietness, of presence, of breath.” I photograph and exhibit "found images" that delight my spirit and question awareness. My works invite the viewer to consider what is being seen and to experience the moment of engagement. Contemplation is essential to the creation of my work, and the images invite contemplation from the viewer. Margot Metcalfe is an award-winning photographer who was born in Nova Scotia and who lives in Halifax. Her works are in private collections internationally, and in several permanent public collections, including the Canada Council Art Bank, the Nova Scotia Art Bank, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Saint Mary’s University Art Gallery, St. Francis Xavier University Art Gallery, the Atlantic School of Theology and the Mary Black Gallery. She exhibits nationally. She has been the recipient of grants from the Canada Council for the Arts and Nova Scotia Culture and Tourism. Her work has appeared in many publications and on book covers. She leads photography and creativity workshops. The book, “Arts and the Spirit”, contains her essay “Photography and Spirituality”.
